Can someone take a look at an item I uploaded and tell me why it came out the way it did. The derived images for the online reader copy came out very distorted and unreadable, but when i download the pdf it looks okay.

Here is the url: http://www.archive.org/details/SouvenirOfDesMoines

trying a fix but i think it will fail. the problem, i think, is that the pages are layers (background, foreground, mask). if these were flattened to hi-res images and a new pdf uploaded with those images the file would likely succeed.

Looks like the flattened pdf is going to work. Thanks for the help.

It looks like FineReader 10 has the option to same images only. I'll create an image only pdf and try that.

Which application(s) did you use to create the PDF file? Also, there are some spelling errors in the description. Interesting item.

I scan the images directly into Irfanview and then save the files as PDF. Then use PDFMerge to create the Multi-page PDF. Much faster than FineReader and I have never had any problems. FineReader is a bit of overkill for Archive stuff. I found both FineReader and Acrobat to be to slow especially for multi-page files. The great thing is that both Irfanview and PDFMerge are OpenSource programs and are much better resource-wise than the others.
